Re: A Failed Season
Definitely not a failed season, if you would have offered top 7 and semi of Europa before a ball was kicked most would have taken it.

With a small squad the manager and players have done well. It feels a bit greedy to of expected or want more but it feels like it so easily could have.

We lost twice to Man Utd and Brentford.....thats not acceptable. Neither is drawing to Burnley twice. The home defeats to Soton and Leeds were really really poor results...... however we beat Chelsea and Liverpool at home.

In Europe the Sevilla and Lyon results were fantastic, what great memories for us fans. However I feel like we are better than Frankfurt......missing out on a european final to them hurts.....we didnt play well either game so no complaints but what a huge opportunity missed.

I think it has been a good season, a very good one if we nick 6th. With a small squad and 1 striker we've done incredibly well. There has been many great trips and memories and plenty for us to build on. Lets not forget how far we've came.....and how we're most certainly looking up rather than down. Just need to get that illusive trophy or into the top 4 now.

Re: A Failed Season
As long as sky get their top 6 the rest of us can just filter into positions and get whatever monies will be owed due to finishing position. Expect to see more focus on Newcastle in the coming months due to their wealth. Just a matter of time before Man Utd aren't in the skysports top 6.if Ronaldo fucks off then it will be curtains for them.

Re: A Failed Season
Very much a 'what might have been' season for me.

Never mind the Europa disappointment after a great run but against-the-form-book losses to Brentford (twice), Southampton (home and cup), and Leeds (home) plus draws against, Palace (home) and Burnley (home) may all really hurt in the final analysis.
As might the last-kick-of-the-game winner by Rashford without which we would be odds-on for another Europa League place.

Re: A Failed Season
It is a bit like blowing a 3-0 lead and drawing 3-3 with one of the top teams.

The result is not bad, with perspective, and could keep us realistically moving forward, but slumping and ending poorly so near the end feels like a gut punch.

Play nicely.

Re: A Failed Season
I think both Moyes and the team thought they could win the Europa League. I recon they might feel they failed there. In every other aspect I believe they achieved what they could. Losing to Brentford twice aside.

Re: A Failed Season
some people are talking our trophy-less season as if we are a team that has won allot of trophies.

not winning a trophy is not a failure for a team that barely wins any trophies.

what would be failure is getting nowhere near a trophy and not making any improvements.

we reached a major semi final in europe and have almost managed to match our league position from last year, if we fail it will be by 1 possibly 2 places.

this season we have arguably 'achieved' more than we have in our previous 25-30 seasons even if that doesn't come with a trophy.

Nutsin
We had a great 2021 in the league and Europe.
We didn't have to play in Europe until late February so not playing twice a week was a bonus.
It was evident to everyone that we needed a striker or central defender. We should of bought someone as an alternative to Antonio, played Antonio out wide left,he usually plays there anyway, offered £10m to Torino for Belloti as it was better than nothing to him. A month or more to intergrate him into the set up.
if we weren't buying a center back then playing Alese in some games would of given us an alternative. Moyes's relunctance to play some youngsters minutes has probably cost us more as it's easier to introduce them from our set up and culture than several new signings. It's ridiculous that this has happened, poor, poor, poor management all round.

Certainly not a failure . Just bloody frustrating Januarys non transfer activity killed any any chance of top 4 and the Europa League .

Re: A Failed Season
If we finish below Man Utd, it may not be a failure but there are plenty of other words you could find, 'coz they are abysmal, yet they beat us twice and are above us. That stinks.

Re: A Failed Season
This is season is NOT a failure by our miserable standards. It’s disappointing because we didn’t fully grasp an opportunity and next season could conceivably be a failure if we don’t tackle the holed in our squad. We need to decide if we’re going to be challenging for and in Europe regularly or the next Bolton Wanderers

Re: A Failed Season
Yes ID I do realise that, however, we have won nothing yet and without good players we win nothing. We have to be able to attract decent players and retain them. The best players want to play in the best competitions.

Re: A Failed Season
Up until Christmas we were playing consistently well…..

After Christmas our league form has been poor thankfully so has the teams around us which flatters our league position.

Europe is where we played our best football this year. With the exception of Liverpool at home, a game I consider our best league performance of the year.

In summary I’d say we have progressed and have a good team….. Lack of investment in January hurt us and is the reason why we are not still fighting for 4th. Hopefully a lesson learned.

Can’t call it a failed season but definitely falls into the disappointing and frustrating category.

Fed up with Yet another year of no trophy, not even a final.

That’s my take, however I hope Moyes and the Dildos see it the same way as Tex, I’m sick and tired of being disappointed, this Summers transfer biz will telling.

I still think Cresswell is a cunt!

Re: A Failed Season
I can understand you frustration, bit calling the season a failure is going to far.
I've been criticizing team selections, subs, tactics at some point. But there has been many great games too, and reaching the semi final in EL is a good achievement.

I would rather say this season have been a missed opportunity to challenge for the top six place, a missed opportunity to win a cup, most of all because the managers inability to use the transfer window in our favour.

We are now going to struggle to keep Rice, and have to add to may players to the squad.
Not failed, but missed opportunity.

Re: A Failed Season
The problem is that it most likely cost us a higher place in the league meaning we are qualifying, if we do, for a lesser competition that, even if we win, will only put us back into the same one that we were in that season.

CR - you do realise that the point of winning a tournament is actually winning a tournament, and not just qualifying for a different competition the next season?

‘Ark at Tex moving the goalposts from ‘failed season’ to ‘failed to take an opportunity’ because the world and his wife can see what an idiotic thread this is,

Where exactly do you expect this squad to finish Tex??
